Once again, my friend Barry Wheeler and I teamed up as "Allen Wheeler" as part of our fun down at Anastasia & Friends to interview, photojournalist Sean Rayford for First Thursday in October. You can watch the interview below.
Taken from the Facebook event page:
Document(s) is a two part exhibit exploring different approaches to documentary photography in the digital medium. Pairing two different narratives with multiple approaches: Inundated and Soda Citizen are respectively comprised of photographs made last year during eight days of historic flooding in South Carolina and portraits of Columbia musicians during a four week period in 2016.The majority of Inundated was photographed by Rayford for Getty Images while covering the disaster for the international wire service. Soda Citizens is collection of photos with folks that the photographer met during his time at New Brookland Tavern, the live music venue in West Columbia.
Sean Rayford is a freelance photojournalist, commercial photographer, formal bartender and 2001 graduate of University of South Carolina. He covers news, politics and sport for The Associated Press, The New York Times and Getty Images. He has freelanced at The State Newspaper for more then a decade.
Rayford has also published a company book to the Inundated exhibit. All of the artist's proceeds from both collections in Document(s) and the book will go to the South Beltline/Gills Creek Comunity Relief Foundation. Many of the images made during the flood were made in that neighborhood.
