First Thursday brought in quite the crowd despite the weather and rain to pay tribute to Anastasia Chernoff’s birthday with an outpouring of love during her time of healing. The event was called "Friends for Anastasia" and it certainly was that. I might be mistaken, but I don’t recall a time where I saw so many people gather together during bad weather in the last couple of years on a First Thursday. It actually became so crowded people were sitting behind the wine bar just to have some breathing space and it was even more surprising when Anastasia showed up with a big smile on her face, happy to see everyone.
There was a wide variety of work on display including paintings, mixed-media, photographs, poetry and literature. One of the best things about attending First Thursdays is I get to sit back and watch my friends take care of business. Alexis and Alice were helping set up the food as Bohumila made her rounds with Grayson handling visitors and sales. And of course as per usual my neighbor, the Wine Goddess handled…the wine, which she does very well. All of the wine sold out by nine o'clock...after all First Thursday is a wine drinking crowd.
L-Hoff a.k.a. The Larsenhoff was also there doing his usual schtick.
At least nine pieces of artwork sold before the show had even begun. By the way I want to thank Tori for purchasing my Gervais Street Bridge on canvas (16x24). She told me she normally hates photos of the Gervais Street Bridge, but she liked mine so much she had to buy it…obviously, I am beyond flattered. Anyhow, I had a great time last evening and I'm pretty sure everyone else did too.
When you see that many people get together in honor of someone you can’t help but feel the sense of community that the arts crowd has in this city. I consider myself lucky to be friends with many of these wonderful people and to have met them here at Anastasia & Friends, located in front of The Free Times office on Main Street.
